Accommodation

Student accommodation at the University of Strathclyde is spread across two sites: the John Anderson student village, which is located on the university’s main campus, and the Jordanhill campus, located to the west of the city.

Housing students studying law, arts, science, engineering or business based subjects, the John Anderson student village is a recently built complex located in the heart of Glasgow city centre. The complex is made up of flats of different sizes, each offering students single study bedrooms with shared bathroom, kitchen and living room facilities. The entire complex is self-catering, although the modern kitchen facilities at the village and numerous cafés in the surrounding area mean that mealtimes are usually straightforward.

Social facilities at the complex abound: students have immediate access to the university’s sports and recreation centre, student shops and student bars. Also, being located so close to the city centre, students living on the complex are only a short walk from all the entertainment and leisure outlets that Glasgow has to offer. The halls are very well secured, with CCTV cameras and wardens patrolling the site 24 hours a day. Rooms at the halls cost from around sixty pounds a week, while most rental contracts last around thirty-seven weeks, to cover the length of the academic year. Rent includes the cost of utility bills.

The Jordanhill campus, which houses students studying education based subjects, can be found to the west of Glasgow. These halls offer catered accommodation only: students are served two meals in the on-site refectory Mondays to Fridays. There are also a number of small kitchen facilities on-site, which are ideal for making snacks and preparing meals at weekends. Although the campus does not offer the same social and entertainment facilities as the John Anderson campus, the halls are well connected to local buses, ensuring students are never too far from the university’s social and sporting venues.

Students are based in single study rooms with shared bathroom and living room facilities, while rent currently costs around eighty pounds a week. Tenancy contracts generally last for thirty-five weeks, and rent includes the cost of utility bills and a laundry and cleaning service.

Students who aim to live at the halls are advised to return their application forms as early as possible: demand for accommodation at the university is high and students cannot be guaranteed to get the room that they want.
