University of Strathclyde

With a student population over twenty-five thousand strong, the University of Strathclyde is the biggest of Glasgow’s four higher education institutions. With a reputation as a specialist in industry-based subjects relating to innovatory and industry commerce, Strathclyde also offers a wide range of humanities, arts and science based programmes, many of which have fared extremely well in recent research assessments and student satisfaction surveys. The university has a reputation for recruiting students from working-class backgrounds and areas where a university education is less common.

Leisure, entertainment, social and learning facilities at the university are highly regarded; students have access to a number of thriving bars, shops, a sports and recreation centre, a university library, a student health service and a wide range of social clubs and societies, run and funded by the student's union. Sports facilities are particularly popular on campus, especially the university gym, playing fields, swimming pool and sports coaching classes.

With its main campus based in the heart of Glasgow city centre, students studying at the University of Strathclyde are given the opportunity to combine their academic pursuits with a vibrant and active city social life. Despite its reputation as an industrial city, Glasgow has a lot to offer in terms of culture and youthful atmosphere, with over sixty thousand students currently living in and around the city limits. The Merchant city area, in which the university’s main campus is based, is particularly well facilitated with bars, clubs, shops and restaurants, giving students ample leisure and social opportunities. Also, as most university-owned accommodation is located on, or close to, the campus, students are never far from the area’s social and educational hotspots.
