Student Information

Most of the student socialising at Heriot-Watt University is based in Edinburgh city centre, with students able to take advantage of the wealth of cultural and entertainment facilities available in the city. Night life in Edinburgh is as lively as you could hope to find, thanks to the city's wide range of bars, clubs and restaurants, as well as other entertainment venues such as theatres, cinemas and bowling alleys.

Edinburgh is also famous for its scenery, with popular tourist attractions such as Edinburgh castle, Edinburgh zoo and Princes street all popular locations for locals and tourists alike.

Regular festivals and celebrations are also common in the city, with Edinburgh home to the UK's biggest arts festival, the Edinburgh Festival, which takes place in the city every summer. The city's Hogmanay celebrations every new year's eve also attract visitors from across the UK.

For students based in and around Edinburgh city centre, finding part-time work is usually relatively simple: bar, restaurant and retail positions are regularly advertised in the city. Students can also find temporary employment at one of the many festivals held in Edinburgh. Living outside the city centre, Heriot-Watt students might find that their employment options are more limited; the Student's Association should be able to give you advice on finding work in the area.
