Accommodation

The University of Glasgow has many different accommodation options for its students. Many first year students choose to live in university-owned accommodation while they adjust to living away from home. You may feel that catered accommodation is worth the extra cost if it saves your needing to shop for, and prepare, your own meals. On the other hand, some students prefer to dive straight in to independent life and cook for themselves. Regardless of the type of accommodation you choose, university-owned properties offer a safe and simple introduction to a new city and to student life: utility bills are included in the rent, and it is easy to make friends with so many other students living nearby.

For those students who wish to live in privately rented accommodation, Glasgow has many flats and houses to choose between. Many of these are rented by landlords or letting agencies who specialise in renting properties to students. Make sure that any property you intend to rent is secure, with locks on all doors and windows and a good alarm system. Remember also that utility bills are not included in your monthly rent. Living independently can be a challenge at first, but many students rate it among their favourite aspects of student life.
