Visas to live in the UK

You may need to apply for a visa if you wish to enter the UK and you are a citizen from a country outside the EEA or Switzerland.

If you are entering the UK say from Japan, then you will require a visa allowing you to live in the UK for a certain amount of time.

If you are not a Commonwealth citizen or a national of the EEA or Switzerland, and you have no relatives living in the UK, nor an employer to sponsor you, you may still be entitled to live and work in the UK providing that you are able to support yourself without financial help from the state.

Before you travel you will need to visit the British embassy or British consulate in your own country and enquire as to the exact requirements you need to satisfy in order to enter the UK. You may need a visa and proof of your income. Visas can often be applied for online, or in person through your local British embassy.
