Family Members
If you are the husband, wife, civil partner or young child of a British citizen or permanent UK resident you will usually be allowed to live and work in the UK providing your marriage, if applicable, is legitimate.
Relatives of British citizens or permanent UK residents may also be granted the right to live and work in the UK if they have no other family to care for them in their own country.
You may also be entitled to apply for UK residency if you are retired and have ties to the UK perhaps through family or a previous employer.
In all these cases you will need to prove that you are able to support yourself, or support yourselves as a family, without financial help from the state. You will also need a visa before travelling to the UK, which can be obtained from a British embassy or British consulate in your own country.
