If, on the 31st December 1982, you were a citizen of the British Commonwealth and had a birth or adoptive parent who was born in the UK, or you were a citizen of the British Commonwealth and were married to someone with the 'right of abode' in the UK, you may be entitled to 'right of abode' in the UK.
'Right of abode' is the right to live permanently in the UK without immigration restrictions.
If you are a commonwealth citizen and your grandparents were born in the UK, you have United Kingdom ancestry and can apply for permission to live and work in the UK as long as you are able to support yourself without financial help from the state. You will need a visa before travelling to the UK, which can be obtained from a British embassy or British consulate in your own country.
