Finding a Room Online
Almost everyone in the Netherlands has access to the internet, and so the world wide web has become a great place to begin your property search. There are many Dutch websites with details of properties and rooms available to rent. You may have to register on the website in order to access the full range of advertisements, or even pay a small fee in order to respond to advertisements in which you are interested; this will usually be minimal however: perhaps five euros for twenty responses. Some websites charge a fee for using the site. Once this fee is paid, you can access this website for a certain time period: for example, thirty euros for one year's access.
If you are allowed to create a profile on the rental website, you should do so. A profile gives you the chance to explain who you are, why you want to live in the Netherlands and what kind of property you are looking to rent. You may also wish to include personal details, such as your age, profession, likes, dislikes and hobbies. Landlords and other site members with rooms or properties to rent can contact you to arrange a viewing. Similarly, you can view the profiles of others and search for a landlord or room-mate whose profile appeals to you. You will usually be able to contact others via email, or by leaving a message on their profile page.
