Student Contracts

There are specialised pre-accorded rental contracts available for students. You will need to be enrolled on a 'laurea' degree course, which is located outside of the municipal district where you live. These contracts are available for rental periods of between six months and three years. They are automatically renewed, subject to agreement by both parties. You are not allowed to sublet if you have a free contract. Should you rent a property with other students, you are entitled to propose changes to the contract as a group if you give six months' notice.

It is important to request the 'verbale di consegna' which describes the physical state of the property before you rent it. This 'verbale' will be an invaluable document should you enter into a legal battle with the landlord concerning damage to the flat or furnishings. If the property and furnishings have not been damaged during the tenancy, the landlord is required to return your security deposit and the interest it has earned during your tenancy.
