Italian Insurance
In Italy there is no compulsory home or rental insurance. You are required only to pay a security deposit in case of damage to the accommodation. However, if you are willing to invest in insurance it can offer you peace of mind should something go wrong.
You can purchase insurance to cover the cost of your rent should you become ill, injured or unemployed and no longer be able to pay. You can also choose to insure yourself against unintentional damage that you cause to someone else's property or belongings.
One of the most common forms of insurance is home and contents insurance, which covers the property where you live and any belongings that you have there in the event that they are damaged by fire or flood, or stolen. Landlords will typically have insurance on their property, which may include a certain amount of contents cover. Ask them if it is necessary for you to take out a separate policy, or if your belongings would be covered in the existing policy.
Insurance is available from many different insurance companies, and it is easy to find and compare deals online. You may wish to ask a friend, colleague, or member of the student advice service at university for assistance if you have difficulty finding a suitable policy or understanding the terms and conditions.
