Average Rental Costs of Student Accommodation

Prices for student accommodation vary from city to city and depend on the type of accommodation required. Often, the rent will not include additional costs such as water, gas, electricity or telephone.

In Milan a single room will be between €250 and €600. In Bologna a single room will cost around €400, and a double around €250. In Rome a double room will cost around €250, whilst a single room can cost between €350 and €500. Prices in Florence, Padova and Venice tend to mirror those in Rome. In student cities such as Naples rental costs are typically somewhat lower. A single room here costs €230 a month on average, whilst a double room will cost slightly less. In some Southern cities it is possible to find very cheap rooms: a single room might cost as little as €120 a month. However, these very cheap rooms are best avoided because they are typically very run down and situated in dangerous parts of town.

Single rooms will tend to cost more than double rooms because you are guaranteed your privacy. It is not uncommon to share double rooms with other students, and so the price you are quoted for a double room will tend to be the price for your share of the room. If you are happy to have a room-mate, you should be able to save considerably on the cost of accommodation.
