Further Considerations to Remember
When you wish to rent a property in Germany, there are more things to consider than the rental contract, the costs involved and the decoration of your new home. You will usually have to provide your landlord with certain documents before you are allowed to sign the contract.
Having done so, it is a good idea to agree on rental aspects such as tenant privacy with your landlord, to avoid conflict in the future. Check with your landlord whether or not there are smoke alarms fitted in the property, and if not, whether you should purchase one yourself.
If you have a pet, or are planning to have one in the property, you will need to check the terms and conditions of the rental contract. It is also sensible to request the landlord's permission before moving an animal into the property, to ensure that you are allowed to keep the pet there and will not have to move it out later on. You ought to be aware that many Germans take rubbish separation very seriously; you may fall out with your neighbours if you are seen throwing unsorted rubbish into a specialised recycling bin!
