Hey, I'm interested in purchasing insurance for my round the world trip. I had a near miss with a car in China and it's made me realise that no-one can avoid all potential accidents, and I should get travel insurance! SGIO came up for Western Australia (where I am now): can anyone tell me if they're competitively priced and offer good policies?

SGIO are a popular company but I'm not sure how much chance you'll have of organising travel insurance when a) you're not an Australian citizen and b) you've already begun your trip... Normally insurers assess your application before you start out and offer you a deal based on the typical risk involved in a journey of that nature. In your case, you're looking for insurance in 'unusual' circumstances, in that you would like to be insured during your trip, in a country where you don't live and don't have a bank account / residence (I assume!). You can still give it a try, of course, but I foresee a few difficulties, as I say. Do you know anyone else who has organised a similar policy? Have you asked other travellers?
Also very interesting:
  • Where to get specific travel insurance, valuables needing separate coverage?
  • Can anyone recommend travel insurance? Asda offering 10% off, are they good?
  • Do I need travel insurance? Norwich union worth it?
  • Help with travel insurance! Kelowna walking holiday.
