Can anyone tell me how best to negotiate a good deal on travel insurance? Marks and Spencer is my target of choice because they offer cover underwritten by Axa, and we're loyal M&S customers, both of us cardholders.

The best way to get a good deal is to give them a reason to negotiate. Explain to them that you'd like to give them your custom but you've found the same cover cheaper elsewhere, and you'd like to know whether they can offer you a better price? It shouldn't be too difficult: M&S aren't the cheapest! Explain too that you're both cardholders and you're loyal customers, as you said. Another option is to agree to purchase more than one type of cover from them: if you agree to get travel and pet insurance they may be more willing to reduce the premium prices.
