Are there any tax-free national savings &investment accounts available? I want to try and invest around £20,000 but I imagine not all of this will be able to be put into one account. What options are available to me?

The best option if you want to invest the majority of your money in one place would be the Fixed Interest Savings Certificate offered by NSI. Although it depends on what length you are looking for, as these are only possible for either 2 or 5 year periods. It’s good as they have guaranteed rates but won’t be right for you if you need access to your money within the first year.

Perhaps with the rest of the money you could try and invest in an ISA, I mean they only allow you to invest £3,600 per tax year and you can only manage them via internet or phone, so I suppose it depends how comfortable you are with that.

Don’t forget ISA allowance has gone up this year and even though you can only have a certain amount in a cash ISA, you could invest more in stocks or shares ISA to get some more of it tax free. I think with a mixture of the two you can use around 10k all tax free
