I was in my branch the other day and the woman told me that I should think about putting some of my savings in to an isa to get some of the tax free benefits. When I got home I discussed it with my wife and she suggested that I get a fixed rate isa after something she read on the internet. The thing is, is that I don’t remember the woman in the branch mentioning any fixed rate isas. Is the Yorkshire building society cash isa available at a fixed rate or not? Perhaps she just didn’t mention it, but I don’t want to have to go back in branch unless I know that I will be able to open one.

I am not sure if your wife has the right idea though im afraid. A fixed rate used to be a good idea, but with the rates as low as they are at the moment and the economy on the rise I would say you are better off with a variable rate isa. Have a read through on the investment pages here if you need to learn more about them before deciding http://www.monetos.co.uk/investment/ Then I would suggest looking over the current rates on somewhere such as www.moneysupermarket.com to make sure Yorkshire are offering the best deal for you.
