I wanted to get an ISA but I am not sure where to go. I know it may sound a little niave or silly but I have always banked with HSBC so I was hoping to get a HSBC ISA. Interest rates, fixed terms and variable rates all confuse me. I am not sure what I am supposed to go for. Could someone atleast put my mind at ease and tell me whether HSBC is at least a good enough rate and is competitive with the other high street banks.

Firstly you need to decide what ISA you need. I would say that the HSBC ISA interest rates are good but it all depends on what you want to do with your money. Do you want instant access to it? Do you want to be able to add money in to an account? Are you secure and can afford to put several thousand aside for a few years. You need to be able to figure out these things before you can decide on whether or not an ISA is the right thing for you. Maybe a savings account is better, or even a bond depending on what you need.
