There seems to be some sort of discrepancy with ISA rates @ NatWest... Normally bank deals only differ by a few tenths of a percent, but Halifax have a Cash ISA offering 4.25% and NatWest offer just 0.5% on theirs... what's going on? Surely they're aware there can be no competition?

Every bank is able to set their own rules, within reason. It may be that NatWest only reward savers who deposit a lot of money, or who agree not to withdraw their funds. The Halifax Fixed Rate ISA Saver, which offers 4.25%, runs for four years, requires a minimum £500 deposit, and doesn't allow you to make any withdrawals. The NatWest Cash ISA on the other hand has no minimum duration, £1 minimum deposit and no penalties for withdrawals! It all depends what kind of deal you need and / or are looking for!
