I didn’t realize that I wasn’t allowed more than one ISA at a time and opened a second one. It has been open for more than 2 months now but I am unsure what to do. My sister said that there is some kind of ISA helpline that might be able advise me on what to do. But I am worried if I call them directly I will get charged loads or get fined, can I not just close the ISA? |

No, I would say in this case it is definitely better to contact HMRC to make sure that you don’t get fined even more later on for not informing them. At least this way you will not be in the wrong, you made a mistake, you weren’t well informed and I doubt they will do anything harsh, apart from make sure you pay back the tax that you probably will owe them. |

You are always told to contact the ISA Helpline / HMRC as soon as you realise this and I am sure it will be better for you in the long run as they will know you were honest. Call this number: 0845 604 1701 |
