I have a bit of money that I would like to put into a savings account of some kind. I have been doing some research and know that the first step is usually an ISA. I wont need to take money out for a while so I was looking in to a HSBC fixed rate ISA. Can anyone tell me some advantages or even disadvantages to such an account so that I may be able to decide whether it is right for me? Thanks.

I would say that it is a bit risky to put it in to a fixed rate isa at this point in time. I mean yeah it is always good to know that you will have a set amount over a course of time, but imagine the possibilities you could miss out on if you tie yourself in to a fixed rate at such a low point when the economy could rise again and thus increase the rates. If I were you I would stick to the variable for the moment and then later on when it becomes more stable perhaps go for the fixe drate once again.
