Why is there a larger student loan since 2006?

My sister went to uni and got a student loan three years after me (I got mine in 2005). She was telling me she has different parts and I think she's getting more loans than I did. What happened to the student loan? 2006 / 2007 seemed to enhance it!

I'm not sure exactly what you're aiming at, because it may be that lots of factors influence your sister's experience versus your own, such as how she applied and where she's studying. She might just be getting more money because she's going to study at a university which is located somewhere with a higher cost of living. On the other hand, you may be confused because she gets a tuition fees loan as well as a basic loan. I think the tuition fees loan was introduced in 2006 so that would fit the time frame too. This is just to cover her fees – she won't see any of the money herself

The tuition fees went up so we ended up we a lower amount, but there are lots of things to consider as they do get a higher amount now, including more grants that don’t need to be paid back, but the amount they have to pay towards tuition is a lot higher I think nearly double!!!!
