I graduated in 2005 but after getting pregnant I ended up only working part time and thus have not started making any repayments. I am about to start working full time again and will be earning over the threshold, but have no record of how much I currently owe. I would like to keep some notes on this, as my employer will be taking money directly from my wages I want to make sure I know how much I still owe. How do I check my student hmrc loan balance?

Well, as the SLC don’t actually know how much you are paying back until they receive the money at the end of the year, the only way to know your current balance is ever April they send you a letter confirming how much you have/have not paid and also how much is left owing. You’ll need to make sure they have your current address to send this form each year. Apart from that you will have to just keep all pay slips to check how much you have paid back each year, and then when April’s statement comes you can make sure the correct deductions have been taken off the balance.

My sister told me there is an online function that you can use, so if you signed up for online access it has all of you details on there. Have you tried looking on their website?
