A few weeks ago I set up a new Royalties student account. RBS were offering £100 free when you sign up so I thought it would be a good thing seeing as I needed a new student account and didn’t need all the junk you seem to be plied off with from NatWest. But thing is I got all my papers through the post, including my bank card and PIN etc, but when I went to the cash point all I can see is my overdraft….. no £100 L Why is this? How long do they usually take to put the money in to an account?

Obviously they don’t want people just taking the money out and then leaving the bank a couple of months later so somewhere in your contract there will be a clause that tells you that you have to use the account for a certain amount of time before you get the money, well that’s what I think they’d do. If not then maybe it comes through in a cheque form? Not sure how that would be logical but just for them to waste time as they do. You said you needed the account right, so just start using the account, put money in perhaps set up a couple of Direct Debits so that they can see you are using the account and then you can go in branch and ask them why you still haven’t received the money.
