I heard that you can only have one student account at a time to stop you from running up too much debt. My first student account(Lloyds) isn’t what I expected and I would like to change over to Barclays but I am not sure what to do because of the overdraft. I have already used £1000 of my overdraft so obviously don’t have the money to just repay the overdraft before opening another account. Is there not a way around this? Am I stuck with this account until I can afford to pay back the overdraft?

If you are certain that Barclays is the right choice for you then just go to them and explain the situation. There is a way that they can deal with Lloyds directly for you so that the overdrafts are just “swapped” over from the old bank to theirs. If I were you though id check whether there is a fee for this type of service, they try and make money EVERYWHERE!!!!!!
