It depends how you want to invest. It sounds like the thrill of the stock market is not for you unless your original capital is secure. Essentially, you can choose to gamble your money (no security, high returns) or you can choose to keep it safe (high security, low returns). If you are already considering the stock market, I'd suggest looking for investment options that offer the best of both worlds: good security, good returns! Guaranteed equity bonds and other, similar funds, can offer you this compromise.
