Before I can start playing the stock market, I've read I need an account. Are securities accounts designed for traders? Are these my best option? Or are there other types of account available?

The website for the Frankfurt Exchange offers a great guide to opening a securities account. You can open them with a traditional banking institution or an online dealer, depending on the deals on offer and what you're comfortable with. The main issue with these accounts, and the best way to compare them, is the cost of trading. Some accounts end up charging you so much for buying and selling that the investment quickly becomes a drain on your finances... Do you just want to dabble in the markets or are you looking to invest a lot?
