I just read this morning in the Telegraph that there is a new product offering 4.5% interest. The new Nationwide ISA fixed rate bond seems very good but can anyone tell me what the downside are, I don’t want to jump ahead of myself but it seems very good and I would like to open it as soon as possible.

The down sides to fixed rate isa bonds are always the fact that 5 years is a long time. And even if you are fine for money now, no one knows if they will be sure in a few years time. But if you have money, and you are almost certain that you wont need access to it in the next few years, then yeah why not.

Scottish widows bank has the same details but at a higher rate of 4.65%. I would say look around first, there are always better offers to be had than those found in the newspaper.
