There seem to be a lot of saving accounts available that involve some element of risk or variable interest... Are the best saving accounts for traditional savers the regular high interest bank accounts?

It is true that a lot of savings accounts involve a certain amount of risk and threat if you wish to access the highest interest rates. Certainly savings that are connected to the stock market in any way will not offer you high returns unless there is some risk to your capital. Having said this, there are some accounts, like guaranteed equity bonds, which guarantee the return of your capital and give you the chance to earn good stock market based returns. You may have to strike a sensible balance between investment earnings and safety to get the best all round deal. Regular savings accounts offer a good deal if you're a traditionalist, but they probably aren't the best bet if you want to make a lot of money.
