My husband is going to be of pension age in 5 years but would like to stop working a little earlier. With the NHS pension is early retirement possible?

Yes it is possible. The NHS has a flexible retirement scheme and you can retire at as early as 50 years old. He should contact his Pension Officer to work out the details. There is also a lot of information online on the NHS website.
