Why is certain pet insurance (tortoise) so expensive?

I've been researching different kinds of pet insurance. Tortoise insurance seems to be an expensive business  Why is this?

Often this is because tortoise insurance is classed as exotic pet insurance. I appreciate that it may be stretching things to claim a tortoise is exotic, but it's not your run of the mill cat or dog or hamster. Exotic pet insurance tends to be cheaper; not least because other exotic pets, like snakes, pose more risk for an insurer than a rabbit. You may want to compare deals on exotic insurance: you may be able to find a good deal for your tortoise! Bear in mind that the more expensive policies may include more service extras however, like travel insurance and free health check ups. |
