I am a little confused with all this pension jargon. I know that there are different ways that I can take out my pension included lump sums etc and a brief look in an investment dictionary explained what annuity is, but now I trying to find out about the specific annuity rates. FSA, I would have thought, would be a good place to start looking seeing as they oversee everything but I cant seem to find it on their website. Does anyone know if they have anything? If not, is there any other reliable website where I can compare these rates?

Well even if you don’t know all of it its good that you are planning to check the open market option. This is always the best thing, don’t settle with whatever your pension provider offers, there are usually other companies willing to beat it. The FSA website does compare annuity rates however it is not just simply a table where all the rates are, you have to fill in loads of details about yourself and the pension you hold in order for them, to find suitable buyers. If you start on this page then you will find that this is where you start filling in your details in order to compare the rates: http://www.fsa.gov.uk/tables/model/model_annuities.jsp?product=annuities&route=fasttrack&trail_position=2

Also very interesting:
  • A SIPP pension, or Self Invested Personal Pension, works in much the same way as a regular pension fund, except for the way in which it is invested. It's certainly possible to organise income drawdown if you have a SIPP, providing your pension fund manage
