There's a German company called creditweb which offers loans designed for people who want to build their own house. Does anyone know if there's a UK equivalent?

It's a lot more common to build a house in Germany than it is here, so the emphasis in the UK tends to be on getting a mortgage to finance a property purchase. However, there are mortgages available which are designed to enable you to build, called self-build mortgages. Unfortunately, the fact that building is less common means that they are harder to come buy. The Ecology Building Society and Lloyds TSB both offer self-build mortgages though: Lloyds offers an APR of just 3.5% while Ecology offer up to 90% Loan to Value ratio.

Go and see a mortgage advisor, I am sure there must be some kind of loop hole in the mortgage system that allows you to take out a mortgage for building a house instead of just buying one.....
