I'm researching mortgages, looking at mortgages online & quote services for mortgages, and wondering: should I be aware of any special sites designed to help people with poor credit?

There are lots of companies who specialise in deals for people who have been refused a mortgage in the past: I'm sure they could help. Ocean Finance do this, for example: they call it an adverse credit mortgage. Alternatively, I'm sure a lot of different sites will be able to give you advice on how these mortgages work and what you'll need to be aware of before signing up. You should expect to pay higher rates and be able to get less money... It's probably a good idea to get repayment insurance as well, to avoid debt getting out of control in the future if you find yourself out of a job or with extra outgoings!

Also very interesting:

  • Is it really a good idea to compare mortgages online when they're so important?
