After wandering the high street and collecting pamphlets and guides to different mortgages I'm overwhelmed with paper but still have no clue which to pick! My friend said that she did all her research into the best mortgages online. Does anyone have tips as to how to go about, and organise the search?

Like any other research project, it's made a lot easier if you know exactly what you're looking for. What kind of mortgage do you need? How much can you afford to pay each month? Do you need repayment insurance? When you know what you need, you can make a table with columns that correspond to these needs and other points like the interest rate, penalties etc... Then take each different mortgage offer and try and fill in this data – it should be on their web site. If not you can call them and just ask a couple of specific things without committing yourself to wanting their product When you've got your table filled out you can compare the advantages and disadvantages of different mortgages more easily!
