Does anyone know how much approximately I would have to pay to for using NatWest card abroad? It is just a normal student account and doesn’t have a student overdraft, its just I am planning to go abroad for my third year and I want to know what kind of charges I am looking at for taking my card abroad. Are there any special links between any French banks and NatWest?

I don’t think so, do you not have a Barclays account? They have links with other banks in France. You could always go in branch and ask them but I doubt NatWest does. You wont have to pay anything if you just use the card in a shop/restaurant etc, they will just convert it, but they will if you actually take money out. There is a commission charge I think of around 2quid. Ask them to give you a leaflet with all of the abroad charges on it so that you can have a look.

Why not just open a French account as soon as you get out there, I mean if you will be there for a year it is definitely worthwhile. Plus if you are a student most French accounts are free to open any way.

What would your overdraft have to do with anything?
