We were having a discussion the other day about the National Lottery and the odds of winning a large sum. A friend of mine said that premium bonds odds are just as stupid and that you cannot expect to win as the odds against you are just like the lottery. So I was just hoping someone actually knows the odds for both and what the general thought of this is? |

Currently the odds of winning any prize on a premium bond is 24,000-1 and the odds of winning the jackpot is around 13billion to one!!!!! A huge difference but you are a lot more likely to win smaller amounts with the lottery. When is comes to premium bonds, I personally find that the key is to hold a lot of tickets. It doesn’t matter if you don’t win the jackpot but the amount they give away with the smaller prizes usually amount to a hefty amount anyway. |

If you look on the NSI website the winners of the big prizes are always those who have the 30k of bonds but so fewer people own bonds in comparison to how many people play the lottery so the odds are bound to be better. But the thing is the number combinations are different also. But if you can afford them I would say the bonds are a great way to invest with some extra money if you don’t need it, cus that way if you win its great, if not then you haven’t lost anything. Imagine if you could get back all the money you paid in to lottery tickets??? |
