The office lottery account looks like it will go for a burton when two of the five betting stalwarts retire later this year... Does anyone know what we need to do to close the account (it belongs to all five of us)... or can we recruit new dreamers and include their names instead?

Is it a joint account? I think that you may have to close it entirely and then set up a new one. Maybe you can set up the new one in advance and then just transfer the old funds, if there are any? It's pretty simple to close an account – you'll all need to sign (unless there's an agreement that one signature is enough) and let the bank know where to send the money that's still in the account. If your ex-betting stalwarts need their shares of the funds back, you might want to sort that out in advance.
