I am looking to invest approx Rs. 80,000 and was looking to the Public Provident Fund, but not sure what the current interest rate in PPF is? Does anyone know? Is this the best way to invest my money? I am looking for something very secure I would not like to take too many risks but I am also open to other suggestions if there are better ways to invest 80k rs. Many thanks.

The PPF is a great way to invest risk-free also a great instrument for long term wealth creation, especially with a sum of your size. PF is a Government scheme thus making it among the safest instruments you can invest in India. However you are either going to have to find another way to invest this money or you are going to have to reduce the amount. The maximum you can invest in a PPF is 70,000. But as the current interest rate is 8% its probably best to just invest the 70k, it will bring in a nice profit.
