I am looking into investing quite a large amount and when discussing it with friends they kept on mentioning investment yield calculator and calculations and what not. What do these calculators help to estimate? Hopefully, once I have better understood its function I will of course, probably, need to use a calculator (as suggested by my friends) any suggestions/recommendations for a good calculator online?

Well in laymen’s terms an investment yield calculator computes the rate of return on an existing investment. So that would mean that once you have made your investment you could use one to see what kind of return you are looking at. But these are sometimes things that should be looked into beforehand. You want to have the best overview of what your investment will produce, and a way to do this is to make sure you have studied the market carefully and know exactly what you are buying in to. I use this calculator provided by the American Bankers Association http://jobfunctions.bnet.com/abstract.aspx?docid=362005
