Are investment savings bonds the way to go when looking for a long term investment? I have been told that GIBs are usually the best as they have fixed returns at not risk to the capital, is this true? Can anyone advise me on the best option for investing approximately £3,000?

If you are thinking of investing in a GIB you will have to perhaps increase the amount to £5k as I am, sure this is the minimum amount required.

It is true that there is no risk with GIBs. The only way you could end up losing out on is if there were an increase to the average interest rates you could potentially lose out on higher returns from other sources.

Have you had a look here http://www.monetos.co.uk/investment/long-term/ there is a lot of info on different types of long-term savings options. It helped me decide on an ISA, but I suppose your situation is probably a little different.
