Is long term disability insurance necessary if you have critical illness cover?

I already have life insurance, and an additional critical illness insurance: do I need to purchase a long term disability insurance too, or am I over-insuring myself?

I'd say you're already doing a pretty good job of covering yourself, but this is the problem with insurances: there's never one that does it all! If you are at risk of getting a serious illness, maybe because of your family's medical past, critical illness insurance is a good idea. The problem with disability insurance is that you can't predict the likelihood of your becoming disabled with anything like the same accuracy... If you were to become disabled and could no longer work, the insurance would be a good investment. If not you've 'wasted' your money – but all insurance is really just cover in case the worst happens, when you hope it won't!
