I'm just wondering whether there are any strong arguments for basic life insurance vs AD&D? My insurer is keen to sell me the extra cover but I'm not sure about it.

AD&D is a great supplementary insurance if you're at risk of accidental death or dismemberment! This might be because you work in a particularly risky job or something. Having said that, most of us would be pretty unlikely to need this cover. Of course, any kind of insurance policy is insurance for the unknown! But if you're not sure the need is there, don't buy it: you can always increase your cover in the future!
