Does anyone have a student joint account? Wachovia offer one and I'm wondering whether it would be a suitable thing for us when my daughter goes to college. Any experience / thoughts?

I like the idea of an account that lets me keep an eye on my kid's spending! Maybe that sounds like I'm a control freak, but debt can be a slippery slope that lands you in a financial mess before you know it... I speak from personal experience! I like the fact that you can check how well they're adapting to financial independence, managing their budget, etc. And my son wants to spend time in Europe as part of his studies, so I also like the fact that it's easy to make transfers into his account. And I think it's genuinely good for the kid if you're not tyrannical about it... if they know you'll know when they go overdrawn, they might manage their funds more wisely... Having said that, I don't think that you should use it as a stick to beat your kid with: you have to expect them to fall on their face a couple of times when they try something new!
