Is it possible that a Joint Account (Barclays) was opened without my consent?

I am getting a divorce and as I was going through all of the papers in the house I found an account that was in both mine and my ex’s name. Now I find this very hard to take in as we never opened a joint account. Barclays had apparently opened this account some time ago now, as this statement is over two years old. How is this possible? What if my ex-husband had run up a huge debt in our names? Can I contest it somehow? Is it provable that I didn’t know, unless I get him to confess of course? |

Well if your husband had applied online then it is very simple as long as he can forge your signature!!!! It is especially easy if you both had accounts with Barclays already, as when you apply online it asks for details regarding your current accounts. If they are both with Barclays then the less precaution Barclays would take as they have both of your details already and assuming your husband knew all your account details it wouldn’t be hard to get the account approved. The all I think he would have to do is to sign a form when it came through. If you can perhaps prove that it is not your signature, then maybe you could contest it, but I am not sure if this is possible. |
