I would like 2 open a joint account. SBI offer banking services in the US but I can't find any details of these accounts apart from their basic checking account. Do they offer the same services in the US as in India?

Are you sure that the SBI offer joint accounts? I went on their main site to compare the products for you and can't find any reference there either to a joint account... Maybe they don't offer this? Or maybe it's just not well publicised? Normally you can arrange for another person to be included in your account if you have set up a personal checking account already. In the same way, you can normally arrange for an extra credit card for your partner or child which is linked to your account. The best thing to do is probably to email them asking what you need to do to convert their standard checking account to a standard joint account. They should be able to take it from there!
