I'm looking for a cheap home insurence to cover my valuables while staying in a rented flat. Does anyone know of a good insurer?

You'll need contents insurAnce, not general home insurance: this typically offers building AND contents insurance. Lots of companies offer contents insurance, although it's often cheaper when bought as a package deal. You can also get personal possessions insurance to cover your valuables when they're not in your home: like your laptop or your mountain bike. You'll need to work out how much cover you need – as in, how much money you would need to replace your valuables. There's no point getting more cover than you actually need: they won't pay you any more than necessary, but you'll pay for unnecessary cover. Try the Co-op, Endsleigh and Halifax.

Use the comparison sites to get a general overview of prices and then check on a couple of the review websites. That is my strategy anyway..... but bear in mind that a lot of reviews are normally negative, but still you should always have a look at least.
