I took out home insurance through Yorkshire Bank Rochdale branch and I am just wondering how to go about making a claim. I have been looking through the forms and trying to find out whether or not I am entitled to a claim. You see, we recently had a pipe burst under the hosue and we didn’t know until the wooden flooring started to change colour slightly and we realised something was wrong. We got a friend of ours to come and help us take out the old flooring but we don’t really have the cash at the moment to replace it. Will the home insurance cover this?

I doubt it. Home insurance sucks!!!! There are just so many different clauses and exclusions etc that when it comes down to it, you still end up footing the bill yourself.
Also very interesting:

  • How does health insurance in germany work?
  • Does anyone have supermarket home insurance? Marks and Spencer or Tesco?
  • What is usual for a pet insurance excess?
  • Is a life insurance gift a good idea?
  • Who needs supplemental life insurance?

We had our house flooded a while back and you would think “they must pay” right, well wrong…. We had beautiful laminate flooring and when we tried to claim to get it replaced the contents insurance company said it was part of the building not the contents, so contacted the buildings insurance who said the opposite. Seriously just get the cheapest cover possible, that’s what I am doing now, just so that I don’t feel as cheated.

Most companies will not pay for flooring repairs, we had a problem with vermin damage and nothing, they said no as always.

I would try your buildings insurance, sometimes they do cover it, but as others have mentioned it is rare…. Good luck!!!
