Is it a good idea to get house & contents insurance separately from different providers or as a package deal?

You can think of this like booking a holiday. Sometimes the package deals are better, because the travel agent has some good deals available at discounted prices. At other times, buying the individual parts separately makes for a cheaper deal, because you can get a low cost flight and book the accommodation and car hire with local agencies. The key is: shop around. Every policy will be calculated according to your circumstances, so there's no 'one size fits all' solution. Do your research and ask lots of different providers for their best quotes: then contact them again if you have a cheaper quote from a competitor and ask if they can't offer you a better deal too!

I would say it is better to get them together, for example I got a great deal with Tesco as I took out my home insurance with them and then they gave me 6 months free contents insurance, which was great. Just have a good look out there, there are some great deals to be had.
