I am trying to find out some information about how to make an insurance claim. Burglary happened last week, police and insurance guy have been round and I have the crime reference number etc but the problem we have is that we don’t have receipts for everything. For example, I was given a flat screen tv from my mother as a house warming present and obviously as I liked it she didn’t keep the receipt. This isn’t the only thing; there is also some jewelry my daughter got for her 18th, a laptop that I got free with my phone contract and some other stuff.

I think the thing they advise people to do in this situation is to just make a list with all the items as you would do normally and for those things which you don’t have receipts for send in pictures/details from internet or catalogues to show value and design and how long you have had them and then they offer you a “relative” amount.

I was told by my insurance company to try and provide photos with the stuff in the background or in your instance perhaps your daughter wearing the jewelry? Also with the laptop perhaps you could just give them your phone contract as I am sure it will have it written somewhere which laptop you would receive etc…
