I'm taking on my friend's second home in France (seemed like a good idea at the time) and need recommendations for French home insurance... His policy was complicated and expensive and he advised me to get new cover. Has anyone bought French home insurance before? Are there any English-speaking insurers?

You may get away without organising the usual home insurance at all. I have a holiday flat in Spain and I got holiday home insurance with Schofields. They offer tailored solutions for people with second properties in France too. It was definitely worth asking the experts – they suggested useful cover I wouldn't have thought to request and I've got real peace of mind now! Sounds cheesy but it's true icon_wink.gif They can also suggest how to organise the cover if you need to cover the building, contents and outdoor area too, for example to cover the swimming pool.

Are you planning on renting the home out whilst you are not there? This will affect what kind of policy you will need to take out. I know that most people rent their homes whilst not there so it could be a good idea to get some extra revenue if you don’t mind people being in your house.
